I hate to do this, but I really want to know, so I’m gonna ask. What brand and guage of strings does Chris use? I would really appreciate hearing from someone who might know. Thanks!

Hi Larry, Thanks for stopping by. I don’t know the answer to your question, but there has been a bit of gear discussion here in the last couple months. I suggest either contacting some of those guys, or try this website, which I found last month: Robben Ford’s official discussion forum. There is a section there called the Daved Zone. Daved is Robben’s guitar tech, and he seems to be on that site regularly and is very friendly. I would bet he has that information, as Chris and Robben have worked together many many times. Good luck, and if you find out, would you mind posting it back here, just for the hell of it? Hope you’ll come back here often. Thanks, By the way, I’m listening to “Impromptu” as I write this. Amazing. |

I’m having a memory of Chris Cain being endorsed by Dean Markley strings. I have no idea where I got this. This other memory is also very vague… so vague I can’t even be sure it’s real: I’m pretty sure Dean Markley himself lived close to where I grew up (that part is 99% true), and I have a vague memory of possibly reading somewhere that Chris Cain was sad to have lost a friend when he passed away. (Now, I’m really stretching here… I have not verified this in any way… I don’t even know if there is a Dean Markley, and if there is, I have no idea if he’s alive or not; I think this is how internet rumors get started… but hey, at least I’m admitting it… anybody reading this will surely read the whole thing and verify before quoting, right? Besides, nobody even knows about this site!). I’m not getting any vague memories about string gauge, though, sorry!! |

Ok, Chris is listed on the Dean Markley website as an endorsing artist… but there is no link… I don’t know if that means he’s no longer endorsing, or just that they don’t know his website URL. |

This is gonna sound crazy, but when I saw Chris Cain play in 2006, he broke his high E string during the last set. After the show, he and I were talking and as I left the stage area, I picked up the broken string and decided to keep it. I’ve been playing guitar all my life, and would “bet the farm” his high E is 0.10 So, if we piece all the clues together, we would come to the conclusion that Chris Cain uses Dean Markley 10’s…...just my two cents. |

Thanks ror all the replies! It does say Dean Marlley on one of his album covers. I’m guessing .010’s by the way he bends so effortlessly. I’ll keep searching. Larry |
