The first time I heard Chris Cain was a couple years ago at Constable Jacks. From that point on I’ve been a huge fan and go to see him every chance I get. There is no better blues player to see live in my opinion. I approached him to purchase a copy of Hall of Shame and asked him if he gave lessons and he said yes and wrote his number on the cd. When he played here in Lake Tahoe I was unable to see the show cause I had a gig in Reno that weekend. However, my wife was able to attend and caught Chris on a break to inform him that I was trying to get a hold of him for a lesson. He asked for my cell# and said he’d call me the next day since he had a 2 night engagement. I took my guitar to work the next day never really believing 100% that he’d call but I was wrong! I was just leaving work when my phone rang and I was shocked! I asked if he had time to do some playing and he said sure come on by. We played and talked for over an hour and when I took out some cash to pay him he absolutely refused! I don’t think Chris could ever understand the impact his generosity and musicianship has had on me. I’ve been heading in a blues direction the past couple years and this just inspired my guitar playing and song writing like never before. I also asked about his touring schedule and he said pay no attention to what was posted on the website and that he would continue touring. So, that’s great news for everybody and the state of guitar itself. It’s just good to know that he is out there raising the bar nightly and keeping everyones interest in blues guitar.
