I saw Chris last night at Skip’s in Angola. I asked him if the rumors about this being his last tour were true and he said “No.” I told him I was relieved because I couldn’t bear the thought of not seeing him perform live again and his response was, “how do you think it made me feel?” Chris was in rare form last night. The joint was rockin’ and he played like there was no tomorrow. I can honestly say that Cain is the greatest guitar player on the scene today; he has no equal. What’s more, he is the nicest, humblest artist you’ll ever encounter. My friends and I come from Detroit to see him whenever he comes to Skip’s (about a 2-hour drive), and he always puts on a memorable show. Why isn’t he rich and famous? Part of me thinks he doesn’t aspire to fame and fortune, but the world is not a fair place when Jessica Simpson fills arenas and Cain plays Skip’s for a $5 cover. Maybe we’re better off if Cain remains “our little secret”! For now, I’ll take what I can get, and hope he finds his way back to the midwest in the not-too-distant future. Let’s hope he means it when he sings “I thought about quittin’ but I ain’t quite finished yet.”
